PUTRAJAYA: The National Labour Advisory Council (NLAC) meeting has supported the establishment of the Sabah Labour Advisory Council (SLAC), said the Ministry of Human Resources (Kesuma).
In a statement Wednesday, Kesuma said this was discussed on Tuesday in the first NLAC meeting chaired by Human Resources Minister Steven Sim Chee Keong

The meeting also took note of the implementation of Section 60K of the Employment Act 1955 in the Management of Foreign Workers enforced on Jan 1, 2023.
“In the next meeting, there will be a discussion with the relevant authorities on the issue of worker accommodation as required under the Workers’ Minimum Standards of Housing and Amenities Act 1990 (Act 446) particularly in relation to the farming sector,” according to the statement.
Apart from this, Kesuma said issues related to “Tuntutan Pengiktirafan (Secret Ballot): Formula Undi Sulit” will be discussed in the technical committee meeting to be chaired by Kesuma Secretary-General Datuk Seri Khairul Dzaimee Daud next month (April).
Kesuma said the NLAC meeting also appointed new NLAC council members, effective from May 1,2023 to April 30, 2025.
NLAC is a tripartite consultative mechanism, established in 1994, involving employers, workers and the Government. It discusses issues related to labour policies, legislation and practices in the country.
The last NLAC meeting was held on July 15, 2022, said the statement.
Kesuma will ensure that NLAC meetings are held in accordance with the Constitution so that national labour issues can be resolved harmoniously among employers, employees, and the Government in line with the Ministry’s strategic mission, which is to empower workers’ welfare, skills and success.
