Kota Kinabalu: A 26-year-old Filipino cook was jailed 10 months for selling a stolen handphone.
Gardo Abdul pleaded guilty before Magistrate Stephanie Sherron Abbie, to the charge against him on Wednesday.
He was found disposing of the stolen handphone at 11am on Oct 16, 2021 at Restoran Maimunah, Putatan.
The offence under Section 414 of the Penal Code carries a jail term of up to seven years, or fine, or both, on conviction.
The court ordered Gardo, who only have a birth certificate, to serve the jail sentence from the date of his arrest and referred to the Immigration Department after completing his jail sentence.
In another case, a 22-year-old man was fined RM1,000 or a month’s jail for engaging in online gambling activity.
Kamri Adam admitted to engaging in online gambling using a handphone at 3.05pm on Feb 19 at unnumbered premises in Kg Warisan Inanam, here.
He was charged under Section 7(2) of the Common Gaming House Act which provides for a fine of up to RM5,000 or up to six months jail or both, on conviction.
The court heard that Kamri was detained by police during Ops Dadu.
Inspector Suzie Kupit appeared for the prosecution.
