Carlsberg adds two more glass crushing machines
The CarlsBot machine is able to crush 600kg of glass bottles per hour and transform it into useful resources.
Kota Kinabalu: Carlsberg Malaysia has installed glass crushing machines at Kg Madsiang in Penampang and Shangri-La Rasa Ria in Tuaran.

This is in addition to its first site at Tanjung Aru Marine Ecosystem (TAME), here which helped crush 22,000kg of glass waste in Sabah since the launch of Project Carlsberg, a recycling programme to tackle glass waste.

Designed by a Sabahan, CarlsBot machines are capable of pulverising up to 600kg of glass bottles per hour. This innovation has enabled glass waste to be recycled into cullets, coarse sand, and fine sand that are useful in making furniture, garden pavers and unique handicrafts.

Carlsberg Malaysia is committed to achieving Zero Packaging Waste through its Project CarlsBot and through achieving a 90pc collection and recycling rate for its bottles and cans by 2030.

Carlsberg Malaysia Managing Director Stefano Clini thanked NGO Ripple Sabah as well as Sabahan communities on the occasion of Global Recycling Day which also marked the first anniversary of Project Carlsbot.

“We are proud to advance our sustainability programme – Together towards Zero and Beyond (TTZAB), a step closer to our net zero carbon emission targets throughout our entire value chain by 2040,” he said.

Shangri-La Rasa Ria Resident Manager Alex Phuah, said Project Carlsbot signifies a crucial step towards responsible tourism and “hope to create a positive impact and a sustainable legacy for the community in Tuaran.”

“We continued from Carlsberg Malaysia, we are encouraged to further expand our impact and contribute to a sustainable future for Sabah and beyond,” said Jennifer Lasimbang, Chairperson of Ripple Sabah.
