Crocodile sighting shocks teacher in Beaufort
BEAUFORT: A villager here was shocked when an unexpected guest made its way to Jalan Rantis, Kampung Bangkalalak, last Sunday.

Abd Sani Mokjin, a teacher from Kampung Mentulud, said he spotted a crocodile (pic), estimated to be about 12m in length, in the middle of the road when he was on his way home at 11pm.

He believed the large reptile made its way to the road via Padas River, which is also connected to the small waterways in the area.

“This is dangerous for villagers, especially those returning homes on foot after tarawih prayers,” he said.

“It is also dangerous for motorcyclists if they bump into this animal.

“What is most worrying is local passers-by on foot, especially children and women, to and from the mosque.”

To this end, he said parents should refrain their children from playing or taking a dip near or in the river.

He said several roads near the Padas River, such as Kampung Mentulud, Kampung Bangkalalak, Kampung Kuala Balik, Kampung Lago, and Kampung Suasa, are exposed to the dangers of crocodiles.

“As such, villagers should be cautious when walking at night, and they must bring along torch lights,” he said.
