Harbouring illegals: Manager fined RM45k
The offence under Section 55E(1) of the Immigration Act 1959/63 carries a jail term of up to a year, or a fine of between RM5,000 and RM30,000, or both, for each illegal immigrant involved.
Kota Kinabalu: A construction manager was fined a total of RM45,000 for allowing nine illegal immigrants to stay at a premises under his control.

Sessions Court Judge Noor Hafizah Mohd Salim meted out the sentence to Latip Salim who pleaded guilty to the charge against him.

Latip was fined RM5,000 in default three month behind bars for each illegal immigrant involved.

He was found permitting the nine Filipinos who did not have any document, to be at the construction site of a project in Ranau at 9.46pm on Oct 13, 2022.

However, the prosecution urged the court to impose an appropriate sentence.

In another case, an operation manager of a quarry was ordered to pay RM25,000 in fines for also permitting five illegal Indonesians.

Martin Kwan admitted to allowing the five Indonesians who dia not have any document at the workers’ quarters at Jalan Labak, Papar on 12.07am on May 9, 2023.

Kwan was fined RM5,000 or three months in jail for each of the illegal immigrant. Prosecuting Officer Abu Sofian from the Immigration Department appeared for the prosecution.
