Those who don’t register with Padu will have basic data in system: Chief Statistician
For illustrative purposes only.
PETALING JAYA: Malaysians who choose not to update their information on the central database hub (Padu) will nevertheless have their basic data automatically registered in the system, says chief statistician Uzir Mahidin.

“In the Padu system, we have data for about 30 million Malaysians.

“However, this is only their basic data, which we have collected from various agencies. What we need is the ‘dynamic’ data,” he said at a press conference here today.

According to Uzir, about 10.6 million Malaysians have updated their data with Padu as of yesterday.

“This comes up to 48.3% of the 21.96 million Malaysians above the age of 18,” he said.

Uzir also said 1.69 million people in Selangor have updated their data on Padu, comprising about 41% of the adult population in the state.

“The states with the highest ratio of people who have updated their data on Padu are Perlis, Kelantan, Terengganu and Negeri Sembilan. They have crossed the threshold of 50%,” he said.

He said the target now is to reach 50% registration nationwide in the first sign-up phase.

On Thursday, Sarawak premier Abang Johari Openg said Padu should not collect excessive information unrelated to one’s financial status.

Abang Johari said the people of Sarawak were questioning the necessity of providing extensive personal information when registering with Padu, The Borneo Post reported.

Last week, Sarawak’s top state government officials in Sri Aman and Sibu were also told not to register citizen information with Padu until further notice.

Sri Aman division resident Abang Porkan Abang Budiman gave the order in a circular addressed to district and administrative officers there.

Administrators were told to relay the message to the community leaders and members of village security and development committees under their charge. - FMT
