Foot patrols help reduce crime

Kota Kinabalu: Stronger police presence in the city through scheduled foot patrols have zeroed robbery cases in the past 50 days.

Kota Kinabalu MP Datuk Chan Foong Hin said the number of stateless street kids begging around town had also declined.

“Police cannot take action on the stateless kids unless they commit a crime but their presence is enough for them to shy away.

“Previously, there was a shelter house mission spearheaded by State Community Development and People’s Wellbeing Minister Datuk James Ratib.

Meanwhile, city Police Chief ACP Mohd Zaidi Abdullah said they are not taking the 50-day streak casually.

He said Zone B (from Kg Air to Mercure Hotel) is regarded as safe.

“The walkabout programmes is proven to have reduced crime. Police want the community to feel safe,” he told a press conference here at the police beat box near Warisan Square, Sunday.
