Avoid calling children names, says MP

RANAU: SMK Matupang Jaya principal Ahmad Shahbirin bin Subin urged parents to encourage their children to enter Vocational Colleges because graduates are eligible to get a Level 3 Skills Certificate and enjoy good demand in the job market.

“Apart from that students can also continue with a diploma in the same field and continue to degree level in selected universities such as Universiti Malaysia Pahang (UMP) and Universiti Malaysia Perlis (UniMAP),” said Ahmad Shahbirin.

He was speaking at the annual meeting of PIBG Matupang Jaya at Dewan Baru Kg Matupang, recently.

Earlier, member of Parliament Datuk Jonathan Yasin said the Parents and Teachers’ Association (PIBG) has a very important role in implementing any effort to improve the educational performance of students in a school.

“The role of parents and teachers should be positively enhanced to achieve student excellence while also bringing a good name to a school,” he said.

He advised parents to refrain from uttering abusive and derogatory words such as “stupid”, “bongo”, “palui”, impudence, etc, to their children because it would have a negative impact among the children.

“Teachers should also adopt a culture of ‘caring’ to all students at the school level without any feelings of favouritism,” as he recounted his bitter-sweet story and the various challenges he faced while in school once upon a time.

Jonathan then announced an allocation amounting to RM2,000 for the SMK Matupang Jaya PIBG fund and another RM1,000 for the PIBG Iftar ceremony.
