Kota Kinabalu: The Magistrate’s Court, here, Thursday, sentenced a lorry driver to a month’s for assaulting his colleague two months ago.
Sallehuddin Gilmol, 37, pleaded guilty before High Court Senior Assistant Registrar Aydiel Putra Alwi, who sat as magistrate, to voluntarily causing hurt to Praveenkumar Iruthaiyasami, an assistant manager in front of Plaza BTC in Inanam, at 2.24pm on Feb 6.
The charge under Section 323 of the Penal Code carries a jail term of up to a year or fine or both, upon conviction.
The prosecution informed the court that Sallehuddin had punched the victim on his face and the victim suffered injuries on his left eye.
Sallehuddin was ordered to serve the sentence from Thursday.
In another case, a jobless man claimed trial to molesting his neighbour.
Suhaimi Matnul, 30, pleaded not guilty before Magistrate Stephanie Sherron Abbie, to molesting the 21-year-old woman in the living room of a house in a village here, at 11pm on March 29.
He was charged under Section 354 of the Penal Code, which carries a jail term of up to 10 years with a fine or with whipping or any two of the said punishment, on conviction.
The court fixed April 17 for pre-trial case management and released the accused on a bail of RM3,000 in two sureties.
Earlier, duty counsel Lim Ming Zoong, representing Suhaimi, requested a lower bail amount.
Meanwhile, a 28-year-old man was fined RM1,000 or a month’s jail for engaging in gambling activities.
Irv Vialley admitted to engaging in online gambling using a handphone at 7.40pm on Feb 19 at a premises in Beverly Hills Plaza, Penampang.
The court was informed by the prosecution that police detained Irv, who found that there was a ‘Pussy888’ gambling application on his mobile phone.
Irv was charged under Section 7(2) of the Common Gaming House Act which provides for a fine of up to RM5,000 or up to six months jail or both, on conviction.
