PENAMPANG: With less than a month from the crowning of the new Johor KDCA Unduk Ngadau, Viru Nikah Terinisip, the titleholder, may face the risk of being dethroned.

Kadazan Dusun Cultural Association (KDCA) President Huguan Siou Tan Sri Joseph Pairin Kitingan said the Association’s central committee has proposed to Johor KDCA to strip Viru Nikah of her crown.

“When the matter was discussed in the (KDCA) central committee, we agreed with the recommendation of stripping off the crown of Johor Unduk Ngadau (Viru Nikah).

“This decision was made after due consideration, with the (KDCA) Council of Elders voicing out their opinions, as well as the bobolian (ritual leaders).

“We decided to keep everything in place, and we hope such incidences that may affect the public image (of KDCA) will not be repeated,” he told a press conference at the Hongkod Koisaan KDCA, here, Monday.

It was understood that Johor KDCA would make the final decision, as Viru Nikah earned the title after winning it last year.

Viru Nikah, also known as “Duyung Darat”, recently landed in the hot soup after she posted a holiday video that irked netizens.

In the video, she responded excitedly to cross-dressing male workers who danced suggestively at a popular eatery in Thailand. Some saw her behaviour as harmless fun, but others disagreed.

Meanwhile, KDCA is set to launch the Hongkod Avenue Stalls at its compound here.

The avenue comprises 22 food stalls and 12 craft stalls.

It aims to generate income for KDCA to finance its activities throughout the year.

The Hongkod Avenue Stalls grand opening is scheduled for 5pm onwards this Saturday (April 13).
