PENAMPANG: Kadazan Dusun Cultural Association (KDCA) is set to launch the RM1.2 million Hongkod Avenue stalls at its compound here.

KDCA President Huguan Siou Tan Sri Joseph Pairin Kitingan said the avenue comprises 22 food and 12 craft stalls.

“The opening of these stalls at Hongkod Avenue KDCA marks a truly historical occasion — its opening is just in time for the upcoming Kaamatan Festival in May,” he said, here, Monday.

“This lively street will offer a fresh shopping experience for locals and tourists.

“With its variety of delicious foods and handmade crafts, Hongkod Avenue will be a great place to enjoy different tastes and explore local cultures.”

He said KDCA is starting a journey to make Hongkod Koisaan a lively place where everyone can come together.

“It is not just about physical upgrades but about making Hongkod Koisaan a place where families and friends can come together to enjoy the food, forge memories, share laughter, and create a space to share our traditions.

“In the past, our Kaamatan celebrations were somewhat hindered by the limitations of temporary booths.

“They were inconvenienced and often fell short of meeting the needs of both vendors and visitors.

“We have decided to replace those temporary booths with permanent structures with essential facilities and utilities.

“This upgrade not only enhances the overall experience but also reflects our commitment to ensuring the success and sustainability of businesses and KDCA, at the same time ensuring that visitors of the Kaamatan Festival enjoy the comfort of these newly-built stalls,” he said.

The initiative also aims to generate income for KDCA to finance its yearly activities.

Pairin also thanked Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim for approving an allocation of RM1 million from the Federal Government – a crucial investment in KDCA’s cultural heritage preservation and development activities.

The grand opening of the Hongkod

Avenue Stalls will be held from 5pm onwards this Saturday (April 13).
