Cop detained in probe of crash involving teen motorcyclist
The teenage motorcyclist died after he crashed into a police vehicle while trying to flee the police for illegal racing.
PETALING JAYA: A police corporal has been detained to assist in an investigation into the accident involving a teenage motorcyclist who crashed into a police vehicle on Wednesday while trying to flee the police for illegal racing.

Melaka police chief Zainol Samah said the policeman, who is with the crime prevention unit at the Durian Tunggal police station, was arrested at the traffic investigation and enforcement division office of the Alor Gajah police station at 9am today.

Zainol said a statement would be recorded from him, Berita Harian reported.

“An initial urine screening test was also conducted and showed no signs of drug abuse by the policeman,” he was quoted as saying.

Following the motorcyclist’s death yesterday, Zainol said the case has been reclassified under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987, where excessive speed is not the sole decider of reckless driving. The offence carries a maximum jail term of 10 years and a fine of no more than RM50,000.

He reiterated that the investigation would be conducted transparently and professionally.
