Kota Kinabalu: City Hall, through its enforcement department, will conduct two operations at Segama Waterfront and Teluk Likas Public Park against litterbugs.
A spokesman for the agency said the operations are aimed at fully enforcing the Anti-Litter Bylaws 1984 (Amendment 2005), particularly among the general public who leave and dispose of garbage irresponsibly.
“City Hall will also pursue legal action against litterbugs,” the statement added.
From January to April 2024, a total of 64 fines were issued under the Anti-Littering Bylaws to individuals who littered in Teluk Likas Public Park, while 214 fines were issued across the city.
A total of five fines were issued under the Peddlers Bylaw of 1966 to illegal peddlers at Teluk Likas Public Park.
Additionally, one confiscation of goods was enforced against an illegal peddler at Segama Waterfront who failed to comply with instructions.
City Hall’s Solid Waste Management Department (SWD) promptly took action to collect and sweep waste around Segama Waterfront.
The recorded weight of the waste collected was 200kg. Furthermore, additional waste bins with capacities ranging from 120 litres to 240 litres have been added at Segama Waterfront.
