Kota Kinabalu: Flights at the Kota Kinabalu International Airport returned to normal as of Thursday evening after being disrupted for several hours due to volcanic eruptions in neighbouring Indonesia.
It is understood that the first flight to depart the airport was a Malaysia Airlines service to Kuala Lumpur which took off around 6.30 pm.
Low-cost carrier AirAsia is also scheduled to resume its regular schedule by 8.30pm.
Airlines temporarily suspended all flights earlier as a precautionary measure after eruptions at Mount Ruang, North Sulawesi, caused a plume of ash to drift to nearby airspace.
