LAHAD DATU: The Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) detained two boats for committing various offences off the east of Kampung Pangkalan, Kunak and south of Pulau Timbun Mata.

Lahad Datu Maritime Zone Director, Maritime Commander Ts. Dr Suzanna Razali Chan, said the boats were detained at 10.15am and 11.15am, respectively, on Friday.

She said both boats were found to be committing offences under the Fisheries Act 1985 for violating the stipulated licence and Section 26 of the Fisheries Act 1985 for catching fish using explosives, poison or other corrosive substances.

Three local men aged between 33 and 41 were also detained, she said.

However, one of the crew members of the boat that committed the fish bombing offence was believed to have jumped into the sea before escaping to the nearest land.

Also seized were a pump boat and its engine, a roll of compressor hose and a bottle of explosive, estimated to be worth a total of RM5,000.
