KOTA MARUDU: The Bandau Kaamatan Festival celebration will be held on May 5 (Sunday) at the Kg. Minansad open hall.
According to the organising chairman, Datuk Maijol Mahap, the event is held for the first time in Bandau.
The Parti Gagasan Rakyat Sabah Supreme Council Member and Bandau Division Chief said the event aims to provide opportunities to the community to experience the excitement for themselves.
According to him, among the activities to be held during the celebration are Unduk Ngadau and Sugandoi competition, traditional sports, cultural performances, magavau and a Kaamatan choir.
Visitors also have the opportunity to visit the cultural booth and tourism exhibitions throughout the festival.
“Everyone is invited to join in the celebrations. Fair grounds open as early as 8am for ethnic Bandau cultural performances namely from the Tobilung, Kimaragang, Bajau Samah, Tinagas, Luba, Rungus and Gobukan tribes.
“The Sugandoi will be held at 6pm on May 4 at the Walai Tobilung Culture Centre and the finals will be held at 8.30am at the Kg. Minansad open hall.
“Six representatives from Bandau will be selected to represent in the Sugandoi finals at the Kota Marudu District level Kaamatan celebrations,” he said.
The highlight is the Unduk Ngadau competition at 2pm on May 5 at the Kg. Minansad open hall.
