No bail for man in ‘Geng Upik’ case 
The prosecution also said the purpose of the joint trial is also for safety measures and asked for early trial dates for the case.
Kota Kinabalu: A 46-year-old man, who was among 13 individuals charged with being members of the organised crime group “Geng Upik”, had failed in applying for bail at the High Court here.

High Court Judge Datuk Dr Lim Hock Leng had dismissed Nelson Yen Yee Chung’s bail application which he had filed on March 12 this year.

Earlier, during the proceedings, the prosecution informed the court that they applied for the cases of Yen and 13 other accused to be carried out in a joint trial to save time and costs.

The prosecution also said the purpose of the joint trial is also for safety measures and asked for early trial dates for the case.

Yen, together with 13 others namely, Rahman Burijin, 44; Jaisalfian Jaineh @ Zaini, 45; Mohd Fauzie Rablin, 33; Shahlan Shah Abdul Samad, 37; Datuk Maslan Sani, 41; Mohd Faridzul Asmahadi, 31; Fazrul Bahar, 32; Alkan Abraham, 35; Mazlan Mahmud, 41; Mahathir Jibarail, 49; Norsyafilah Pawawoi, 27, and Zulkahar Dusing, 38, were previously charged separately at the Sessions Court to committing the offence from 2015 to 2023.

They were charged under Section 130V(1) of the Penal Code, which carries a jail term of between five years and 20 years on conviction.

All the cases are waiting for trial dates.

Deputy Public Prosecutors Nur Ainaa Ridzwan and Siti Hajar Mat Radzi appeared for the prosecution while Yen was represented by counsel Datuk Ram Singh.
