It’s simply Joniston’s view, says Sabah Pejuang after GRS rebuffed proposed pact
Sabah Pejuang information chief Hassan Abu Bakar downplayed GRS’s rejection, saying his party was merely interested in forming a partnership.
PETALING JAYA: The statement by Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) information chief Joniston Bangkuai rejecting Sabah Pejuang’s desire to cooperate is just his personal view, Sabah Pejuang information chief Hassan Abu Bakar said.

Hassan said Pejuang had merely expressed interest in working with GRS, without making any formal request.

“We would like to clarify once again that the intent, as conveyed by Pejuang president Mukhriz Mahathir, was simply an ‘interest’ in forming a partnership.

“However, we have already received a rejection,” he told FMT.

Last Saturday, Pejuang said it is willing to work with political parties in Sabah, including those currently in government, provided the alliance would enhance its support base.

Mukhriz said while there have been informal talks with some smaller Sabah parties, discussions with larger parties have not yet taken place.

However, Joniston said the GRS coalition is not interested in forming alliances with any peninsular party for the upcoming state election.

GRS deputy secretary-general Armizan Mohd Ali also said there have been no talks with Pejuang about forming an alliance for the Sabah election, as the coalition’s current focus is on strengthening its ties with Pakatan Harapan.
