Lahad Datu water surge victims receive contributions from Zahid

LAHAD DATU: Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi presented contributions to three families of water surge incident in Lembah Mak Sina.

The contributions were conveyed by the Political Secretary of Rural and Regional Development Minister, Datuk Mohd Razlan Muhamad Rafii during his visit to the victims’ houses in Kampung Batu II, Kampung Jawa and Kampung Tamoi.

Razlan hoped that the contribution could ease the burden of the families who lost their beloved family members.

“We were saddened by the incident and pray that their families were given courage and perseverance for their loss,” he said.

Razlan said the widow of the tour guide who lost his life in the incident is also Lahad Datu Umno Permanent Secretary.

“We were told that her husband was frequently sought by the people to bring them to local tourist attractions.

“However, he was among those who were trapped in flood and water surge during their trip to Lembah Mak Sina recently and lost his life,” he said.

He advised members of public should to always prioritise their safety while conducting activities.

Last Sunday, a total of 15 individuals including four tourist guides went to Lembah Mak Sina for river hiking activities.

However, during their return trip, at about 4pm, the area was flooded causing them to be trapped.

Twelve of them survived and three of them managed to get out of the area by themselves and contacted the authorities.

Nine others were rescued by Fire and Rescue Department.

The incident claimed the lives of a tour guide and two participants, namely Saleh Latani (tour guide), Rosnaneh Mutahir and Saharuddin Badaruddin.
