PENAMPANG: Police arrested a husband and wife suspected of being drug dealers in two separate operations in Putatan, with the seizure of 466.07gm of syabu, Monday.
Penampang Deputy Police Chief DSP Erwansyah Abdul Basir said the syabu was estimated to be worth RM16,000.
He said the first arrest involving a 41-year-old man was made in a 4pm operation conducted by the district’s Narcotics Crime Investigation Division.
“This led to the second arrest of a 34-year-old woman who was found in possession of a transparent plastic packet containing clear crystalline substance suspected to be syabu.
“Initial urine tests on both suspects found were positive for tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) or cannabis,” he said in a statement, Tuesday.
The case is being investigated under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 where the penalty is death or life imprisonment and caning of at least 15 times, if found guilty.
“The case is also being investigated under Section 15(1)(a) of the same Act for using drugs,” he added.
He urged the public to continue to be the “eyes and ears” in channelling information to combat the drug menace.
