PUTATAN: Two men had a lucky escape when the Proton Saga they were travelling in slammed into the rear of a cement lorry along Putatan Road on Tuesday.
Despite the force of the collision leaving the Saga wedged between the lorry and a road divider, both the driver and his passenger emerged unscathed.
The accident occurred around 9am near the airport road turn-off.
It is believed that the Saga, driven by a 37-year-old man with a male passenger, rear-ended the lorry which was driven by a 49-year-old man.
The Saga was believed to be heading towards Lintas direction when it collided with the rear of the lorry which was heading in the same direction.
The lorry driver, who came from the Lok Kawi area, did not immediately realise what had happened.
The lorry driver only noticed the Saga after the lorry moved from the main lane into a smaller lane, by which point the car had become sandwiched between the lorry’s rear and the road divider.
The damage to the Saga was severe, but somehow the driver and his passenger were able to get out without any injuries at all.
Kota Kinabalu police Sergeant Laimin was at the scene to investigate.
