Stealing shoes lands man in jail
Rohaizam was charged under Section 379 of the Penal Code, which carries a jail term of up to seven years, or fine or both, on conviction.
Kota Kinabalu: A 36-year-old man was jailed four months, Tuesday, by the Magistrate’s Court for stealing a pair of shoes.

Rohaizam Rozali pleaded guilty before Magistrate Stephanie Sherron Abbie to stealing a pair of Asics shoes worth RM600 belonging to Shazwan Kula at 5am on May 7 at Riverside Resident Sodomon, Penampang.

Rohaizam was charged under Section 379 of the Penal Code, which carries a jail term of up to seven years, or fine or both, on conviction.

Prosecuting Officer Inspector Suzie SK told the court that Rohaizam was seen through CCTV footage taking the shoes on May 6 at 3.17pm.

Counsel Lim Ming Zhoong, representing Rohaizam, requested a lenient sentence as he is remorseful.

Rohaizam was ordered to serve the sentence from the date of his arrest.

In another court, an unemployed woman was jailed a month for stealing 15 bottles of Johnson & Johnson product at a market in Penampang.

Shazlina Saili, 35, pleaded guilty before Magistrate Wan Farrah Farriza Wan Ghazali to stealing 15 bottles of Johnson & Johnson product worth RM154.50 at 8.40pm on May 7 at CKS Millennium Market, here.

Shazlina was charged under Section 380 of the Penal Code, which carries a jail term of up to 10 years and  fine, on conviction.

Deputy Public Prosecutor Ling Guong Zhin told the court the complainant managed to capture Shazlina, who tried to escape after stealing the product at a shop next to 7-Eleven premises.

He said Shazlina was also charged under Section 15(1) of the Dangerous Drugs Act for taking drugs.

Counsel Carmen Khoo, representing Shazlina, requested a lenient sentence on the grounds that it was her first offence and that she has one child and is six months pregnant.

Shazlina was ordered to serve the sentence from the date of her arrest.
