LABUAN: The Labuan Chamber of Commerce (LCC) retained its leadership lineup for the 2024-2026 term, ensuring stability and continued progress for the region.
Chairman Daniel Doughty retained his position unopposed, reflecting his continued advocacy on economic and public interest issues in Labuan and Sabah.
Tan Soon Kiat, also known as KS Tan, will continue as deputy chairman, with Raymund Pang serving as secretary-general and Erich Nicholas as treasurer.
The lineup was formed during LCC’s annual general meeting held on Saturday (May 18), chaired by University Malaysia Sabah Labuan International Campus (UMSKAL) Dean Professor Dr Geoffrey Harvey Tanakinjal.
Returning and new committee members include Steven Tee, Wazlee W. Ismail, Eng Lean Chye, Jayniel Ledder, Mary Lou Montallana, and Clare Bernard.
Doughty said the LCC remains committed to being a focused and dedicated platform that provides data-driven alternative voices, serves its members’ commercial interests, and contributes to Labuan’s economic betterment.
“The chamber has grown significantly over the years, earning widespread recognition from the community for its consistent efforts in strengthening the economy and well-being of Labuan,” he told Bernama today.
Doughty emphasised that this recognition motivates LCC members to continue pursuing impactful initiatives that benefit members and the broader community.
He also noted that LCC's diverse membership spans various industry sectors, including oil and gas, entertainment, agriculture, food and beverage, manufacturing, logistics, shipyard operations, ship care, port operations, international financial services, retail, and small and medium enterprises.
“This diversity enhances our ability to address unique challenges and opportunities within these sectors, fostering a collaborative environment for growth and innovation,” he said.
Doughty also highlighted LCC’s collaboration with UMSKAL and Neurogine on a research project titled ‘Enhancing Digital Readiness among MSMEs: A Study on QR Code Adoption.’
“This initiative underscores our commitment to advancing digital transformation in the region,” he said.
Looking ahead, the LCC is preparing to support the Sabah Oil, Gas, and Energy Conference & Exhibition on June 27-28, 2024, and anticipating a visit from the Palawan Economic Development Council (PEDCO-BEBC) on June 1, led by its president Alex Paglumotan.
“The discussions with PEDCO-BEBC will focus on reactivating transhipment activities and exploring the feasibility of establishing a Labuan-Palawan sea route, promising new avenues for economic cooperation and development,” he added.
