Kota Kinabalu: Sabahan para athletes Eddy Bernard and Jonathan Wong Kar Gee have done the country proud with podium finishes in the Kobe 2024 Para Athletics World Championships in Japan on Monday.
Eddy who took part in the men’s 100m T44 event captured the silver medal with his personal best time of 11.77s in the final to finish behind Mpumelelo Mhlongo of South Africa who crossed the line in 11.34s with Sri Lanka’s Indika Gamage (11.83s) in third place.
Jonathan on the other hand took the bronze in the men’s long jump T12 event with a distance of 7.05m.
The gold went to Said Najafzade of Azerbaijan (7.30m) and Ishiyama Daiki (7.08m) of Japan took the silver.

Meanwhile, at the Citi Para Swimming World Series Singapore held over the weekend at the OCBC Aquatic Centre, another Sabahan Ethan Khoo also did the country proud by claiming a bronze in the S14 category’s 400m freestyle with his time of four minutes 29.27s.
Hong Kong’s Wong Hon Yin (4:22.59) took the gold while in second place was Saito Genki (4:27.58) from Japan.
Ethan was one of three Sabahan athletes in the Malaysian contingent taking part in the meet.
The other two are Brenda Larry and Abd Halim Mohammad.
