TAWAU: The Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) arrested a 40-year-old skipper for carrying various controlled goods without a permit, here, on Monday.
Tawau Maritime Zone Director Shahrizan Raman said the man was arrested by a team during “Op Pluto Timur” and “Op Tiris” which detected a suspicious cargo boat moving out of Tanjung Batu waters towards Pulau Sebatik waters at 10am.
He said an initial inspection of the boat found a local man acting as the boat skipper possessing valid identification documents.
“However, a thorough inspection of the boat found it carrying 48kg of packaged sugar, 34kg of cooking oil packets, two cooking gas cylinders and three gallons of petrol without any valid permits,” he said.
The skipper, boat and goods were subsequently brought to the Tawau Maritime Zone Jetty for further action.
The case is being investigated under the Customs Act 1967 and the Supply Control Act 1961 for not having permits.
