Tawau car plunge kills man

TAWAU: A 59-year-old man was killed after his vehicle skidded and plunged into a 10-metre deep ravine along Jalan Luasong, here, on Tuesday.

Yong Kon Siong was pronounced dead at the scene due to severe injuries.

Sabah Fire and Rescue Department operations centre assistant chief, Riki Mohan Singh Ramday, said eight firemen, led by Tawau Fire and Rescue Station senior fire officer II Mohd Yahya And Fayyah, was dispatched to the location after receiving a distress call at 7.08pm.

It took the fire engine about an hour to reach the location, about 120km from the station.

“The victim was found trapped in the car. Firemen had to extricate his body from the wreckage,” said Riki Mohan.

The operation ended at 9.58pm.
