LAHAD DATU: An 81-year-old pedestrian was killed when he was knocked down while crossing the road by a Proton Saga driven by a 25-year-old man at KM2 along Jalan Lahad Datu-Sandakan, here on, Wednesday.
District Police Chief, ACP Dzulbaharin Ismail said impact of the crash killed the victim on the spot.
“We have detained the Proton driver who does not possess any identification document for investigation.
“Blood samples were taken from the victim and the driver for alcohol and drug tests,” he said.
Dzulbaharin said investigation is being conducted under Section 41(1) of Road Transport Act 1987 and Section 6(1)(c) of Immigration Act 1959/63.
Police also urged those who witnessed the incident to contact Insp. Mohamad Humaidi at 089-881255.
He also reminds road users to always be cautious while driving and comply with the rules to avoid any mishap.
