House razed, two others partly destroyed in Lahad Dato

LAHAD DATU: A semi-permanent house was destroyed in a fire at Kg Duran, Batu 2, here, on Friday. Two other houses were partially damaged.

The State Fire and Rescue Department said the department received a distress call at 3.21pm.

A team of seven firefighters in a fire engine and EMRS vehicle from Lahad Datu Fire and Rescue station were deployed to the scene and arrived three minutes later.

The team took 12 minutes to control the blaze and managed to fully extinguish the fire.

One of the houses was 100 per cent destroyed, while two other houses suffered 15 per cent and five per cent damage.

No injuries were reported. The cause of fire and losses are under investigation.

Meanwhile in TUARAN, two families were reported safe after their houses destroyed in a fire at Kampung Koporingan, Tamparuli, at about 8am on Friday.

Tuaran District Fire and Rescue Station Chief, Mohammad Nor Amit, said a distress call was received at 8.05am.

He said seven officers and personnel were deployed to the scene on a fire engine and Emergency Medical Rescue Services utility vehicle.

“Upon arriving at the location, the two non-permanent type houses were already 100 per cent destroyed while an adjacent permanent type house was also affected with 20 per cent damage.

“Also destroyed in the incident was a Proton Wira Aeroback car.

“According to witnesses, the fire spread quickly but all the occupants of the two houses managed to escape and no one was reported injured.

“Properties and some important documents belonging to the occupants were also destroyed,” Mohammad Nor said.

He added the fire was brought under control at 8.45am and the operation ended at 10.18am. The cause of fire and losses are still under investigation,” he said.

Last Thursday, a Peugeot 308 type car was also destroyed in a fire at about 5pm in Jalan Lama, Topokon. There was no casualty.
