Murder: Brother claims trial
The charge under Section 302 of the Penal Code carries the death penalty or not less than 30 years jail and not more than 40 years jail, and with no less than 12 strokes of whipping, on conviction.
Kota Kinabalu: A former Sabah rugby player claimed trial in the High Court here, Wednesday, to murdering his younger sister last year.

Arden Mattson Maturin, 27, pleaded not guilty before Judge Datuk Zaleha Rose Pandin to the murder of Audrey Maturin, 24, between 3.30pm and 4.30pm on May 4, 2023, at a house, in Taman Prestij, Jalan Signal Hill.

Zaleha fixed July 11 for case management and ordered the accused to be remanded further.

Meanwhile, a 23-year-old man was fined RM1,800 or two months jail for engaging in  online gambling activity in public.

Muhd Dainel Isad pleaded guilty before Magistrate Lovely Natasha Charles to committing the offence at Inanam Taipan, on June 9, at 9.40pm.

The court heard from the prosecution that Dainel was detained by police after an online app was found in his handphone.

The handphone as well as other paraphernalia, including RM40 cash, were seized from Dainel, said the prosecution.

The charge under Section 7(2) of the Common Gaming House Act provides for a fine of up to RM5,000 or up to six months jail or both, on conviction.

Duty counsel Lim Ming Zoong @ Lawrence requested a lenient sentence as Daniel is unemployed.

Inspector Kelvan Elson Maik applied an appropriate sentence.

The court ordered the seized money to be forfeited as government revenue.
