Kota Kinabalu: The Sabah government’s move to implement an investor-friendly policy has attracted the attention of China.
Chairman of one of the Chinese government-linked companies, Chen Pengyu, said the policy would significantly impact development in the Asian region.
He said the policy has encouraged more investors from China to explore various industries in Sabah, particularly in the new energy and green sectors.
“Chinese companies are increasingly keen to invest in Sabah to support its transition towards using green energy.
“In the future, I hope to see more companies from China and globally investing in Sabah, as it holds great potential for investment,” he said at the signing of a
Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between, Shanghai Vision Industrial Development, and Bumi Borneo Consultant and Training at the Sabah International Convention Centre (SICC) on Friday.
The MoU was part of the ‘business matching’ initiatives showcased at the 11th Sabah Oil, Gas and Energy Exhibition and Conference (SOGCE) 2024, which spanned two days in Sabah since Friday.
Meanwhile, local industry player Mohd Suffry Abdul Rahman, Managing Director of Bumi Borneo Consultant and Training, expressed optimism about collaborating with foreign companies in Sabah’s green industry.
He emphasised that such partnerships are aligned with the state government’s vision to catalyse the green energy sector.
“Since the Sabah state government, through the Sabah Energy Commission (ECOS), took charge on January 3, we have seen positive changes in energy procurement.
In just five to six months, significant steps have been taken, including the recent open tender for solar energy participation by industry players, he noted.
