Kota Kinabalu: The 3rd Kaamatan Squash Festival organised by Prestige Sports Club was successfully held with more than 100 players taking part at the Likas Squash Centre in Likas Stadium recently.
The club’s deputy Brian Jr. Dell Junot said the three-day competition had attracted not only the local and Sarawak players, but also from China, Indonesia, Brunei and the United Kingdom.
He was pleased the event managed to achieve their objectives of popularising the sport and at the same time strengthening the bonds among foreign and local players, as well as unearthing new talents to participate in more prestigious tournaments in the local and international arena.
He congratulated the organising committee for their commitment and initiative to draw in more players from overseas.
He also thanked the Sarawak and local players for their continued support as well as chief coach Bryan Faurillo, other coaches, committee members and the sponsors for their inputs to ensure the success.
He hopes to receive funds from the government in the future so that the annual event can grow even further and the club can also organise international tournaments with Asian ranking system to attract more players from overseas.
Meanwhile, the top three winners in each of the categories were Kayden Liaw, Nicholas Tan, Jedidiah Kwan (men’s open); Etain Tay, Euodia Lai, Velcy Veon (women’s open); Jordan Ee, Donovon Kong, Tham Tse Xuan (rookie); Brother Huzarie, Neville Blackie, Harry Kong (men’s 57); Su Fang, Adrina Limus, Christian Lydia (women’s 57); Adryel Faurillo, Joshua Adam Kong, Ivan Teo (boys’ Under-11); Zachary Prabhakaran, Sebastian Chin, Andreas Kong (boys’ Under-13); Aaron Sebastian, Bonaventure Chin, Jairus Chung (boys’ Under-17); Queenelle Kong, Dianne Chung, Jemimah Kiu (girls’ Under -11); Nathaniel Kong, Velca Vionne Aloysius, Kimberly Mike (girls’ Under-13).
