Kota Kinabalu: A total of 69 participants from all over Sabah were selected to attend a special course for prospective trainers of the Module on Electricity Supply Enactment 2024 and Electricity Supply Regulations 2024 an important initiative carried out by the Energy Commission of Sabah (ECoS).

The Module on Electricity Supply Enactment 2024 and Electricity Supply Regulations 2024, to be introduced to the public in August, will enable holders of the Suruhanjaya Tenaga (ST) Competency Certificate who are working or will work in the state of Sabah, to apply for an ECoS Competency Certificate, of equivalent restriction.

“This special course is one of the steps to ensure that quality trainers are readily available to effectively conduct the Module on Electricity Supply Enactment 2024 and Electricity Supply Regulations 2024, including other electrical competency courses not only from the technical aspects but also on legislations that are currently enforced in the state of Sabah,” said Ridwan Saham, Chief Operating Officer of ECoS.

“In line with the provisions under the Electricity Supply Regulations 2024, a person who wants to become an ECoS Competent Person must have sufficient knowledge about the Enactment and the Regulations under it,” he said in a statement.

To date, ECoS has approved accreditation applications from 16 training institutions in Sabah to conduct electrical competency courses and is currently in discussions with several training institutions to upgrade their training facilities in order to be able to organise courses at a higher level.

“ECoS assumed the regulatory power of electricity supply activities from Suruhanjaya Tenaga, in line with the proclamation of the Electricity Supply Enactment 2024 and the Electricity Supply Regulations 2024 on January 3, 2024,” Ridwan continued.
