Replace Liawan roundabout with traffic lights to ease congestion: Anuar
Anuar also expressed concern over the congestion on Jalan Persekutuan (Tambunan – Keningau) due to the temporary closure of the low-level crossing in Sungai Liawan for bridge construction.
Liawan Assemblyman Datuk Anuar Ayub said the increasing number of vehicles and population density has turned roundabouts in Liawan into bottlenecks.

He suggested replacing these roundabouts with traffic lights to alleviate congestion, especially during peak hours.

He also expressed concern over the congestion on Jalan Persekutuan (Tambunan – Keningau) due to the temporary closure of the low-level crossing in Sungai Liawan for bridge construction.

“Warning letters had been issued to the contractor for delays. More drastic action should be called for if their performance doesn’t improve,” he said.

He also proposed a temporary 500-metre alternative route between Taman Muhibbah and Kampung Linsosod to ease traffic flow.

Road conditions in several villages within his constituency are poor, including Kg Gaulan, Kg Sigapon, and Kg Ulu Keningau (Tarapa).

“The Public Works Ministry should accelerate road upgrading works in view of the difficulties faced by residents in transporting agricultural produce and conducting daily affairs.

“These issues directly impact the quality of life and economic well-being of our constituents. I urge all relevant authorities to take swift and decisive action to address these concerns and improve the lives of the people in Liawan and surrounding areas,” he said.

He also talked about the importance of providing prayer facilities in schools.

“Schools are not only places for academic learning but also for character formation,” he said, pointing out the role of religious practices in shaping young minds.

On economic development, Anuar requests an extension of the Madani Community Prosperity Programme application period to allow local communities more time to prepare the necessary documentation.

He also raised the critical issue of water supply in the Keningau area, saying dilapidated pipes and frequent leaks have caused prolonged disruptions.

He called for the immediate implementation of the non-revenue water programme to upgrade the piping system and ensure more efficient water management.

Flood control was another priority, with Anuar attributing recent flooding to inadequate drainage systems.

He urged the government to conduct studies and take proactive measures to address this recurring problem.

On the topic of food security, he welcomed the State Government’s decision to revive the Sabah Padi and Rice Board but stressed the need for expedited action.

“Sabah still imports 70 per cent of its rice needs; thus, it is important for us to reduce import dependence and support our local rice farmers,” he said.
