Kuala Lumpur: Datuk Seri Wilfred Madius Tangau (Upko-Tuaran) urged the Government to fill the position of Deputy Police Chief in several District Police Headquarters (IPD) in Sabah.
According to him, there are IPDs that only have a District Police Chief but do not have a Deputy District Police Chief position.
“Through my observations in several districts such as Tuaran, Kota Belud, Kudat, Papar, Beluran, Kota Marudu and Kinabatangan, all these IPDs have a District Police Chief with the rank of Superintendent but do not have a Deputy District Police Chief position.
“The absence of a Deputy District Police Chief in these IPDs may place an additional burden on the respective District Police Chiefs, especially in the administrative field, as they have to bear the entire workload without a deputy,” he said during the Debate Session on the Penal Code (Amendment) Bill 2024 at the Parliamentary Sitting, here, on Wednesday.
Madius also requested clarification on whether the Ministry of Home Affairs has plans to fill these vacant positions in the near future.
“This is important to ensure that the administration of the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) in maintaining and preserving public safety and order, including in matters of cyber security, is more assured and can be implemented more efficiently,” he said.
Earlier, Madius said the effort to amend the Bill was the right step taken by the government.
“Tuaran supports and requests the government to prioritise budget allocation to PDRM and other related agencies, especially in the field of cybercrime security.
“This may include PDRM needing to recruit new staff with the skills to handle these matters,” said the Upko Honorary President.
