PETALING JAYA: The Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) has fined three men RM25,000 each for posting obscene comments about an infant on Facebook.
MCMC’s investigations found that the comments were posted on an entertainment portal that published an article on female infant circumcision in the UK.
"MCMC reminds the public that making lewd and obscene remarks or, in this case, sexual remarks about female infant genitals, is immoral and against the law," it said in a statement.
The public is urged to exercise caution before uploading or sharing any content, especially those involving children.
The internet regulator reiterated that Section 233(1)(a) of the Act prohibits the dissemination of obscene or offensive communications with the intent to cause harm or annoyance.
The maximum penalty for such offences includes a fine of up to RM50,000, imprisonment for up to one year, or both, it said.
MCMC also affirmed its commitment to protect children and said it would not compromise on actions against those involved in misconduct towards children.
