TAWAU: A 44-year-old woman suffered burns on her feet in a fire that destroyed a house occupied by 24 people and two cars in Kg Baru Pasir Putih, early Sunday morning.
The victim is said to have stepped on the hot floor while rescuing her sleeping eight-year-old daughter.
Tawau Fire and Rescue Station (BBP) Chief, Jemishin Ujin, said the victim was given initial treatment before being rushed to Tawau hospital by Emergency Medical Response Services (EMRS) machinery for further treatment.
He said they received an emergency call at 2.13 am through MER999 and moved to the location with four fire engines and 16 officers and personnel.
“The fire gutted a semi-permanent house which was 90 per cent burnt and destroyed two Perodua Axia and Kancil cars.
“The fire team put out the fire using two streams of 200 feet, and getting water sources from nearby fire hydrants.
“We managed to control the fire at 2.50 am, before ending the operation at 4.09 am,” Jemishin said.
He added that the cause of the fire and the total loss are still under investigation.
In the operation, he said, BBP Tawau was also assisted by the police, Sabah Electricity Sdn Bhd (SESB) and Bomba Komuniti Tanjung Batu.
