PENAMPANG: The appointment of Francis Chong Yu Shing as first Penampang Municipal Council (PMC) President is apt and timely, said the Penampang Chinese Chamber of Commerce (PCCC).

Its President Victor Kou noted he has vast experience in administering local authorities (PBTs).

“We welcome the upgrading of Penampang district into a municipality on Monday. It shows the State Government’s recognition of Penampang’s huge potential.

“We hope he will focus on further improving infrastructure problems especially related to flooding and implement measures to minimise the impact of natural disasters.

He said PCCC hoped PMC would be close to the business community here besides local communities, listen to their opinions and suggestions to further develop Penampang.

 “The municipal council must formulate new governance guidelines,” he said.
