Kota Kinabalu: Malaysian women's double badminton star Thinaah Muralitharan reportedly speak four languages and practises them on the court.
Thinaah is impressively fluent in Mandarin when communicating with her teammates, online news outlet Scoop reported.
The 26-year-old shuttler had decided to pick up Mandarin to facilitate communication with her teammates and her father’s advice to do so has been precious .
“What I told her was: ‘Learn one new word each day. With 365 days in a year, you should know 365 words by the end of the year. You can then start forming sentences based on the words you’ve learned, and you’ll see improvement from that,” her father, Muralitharan, said to Scoop.
She is currently pursuing a Bachelor of Education in Teaching English as a Second Language at Open University Malaysia and is now in her final semester.
Thinaah’s parents told Scoop that they would support their daughter’s Olympic debut in Paris now ongoing.
“Don’t worry about winning, just play your best, and we couldn’t ask for more,” said Muralitharan.
