Kota Kinabalu: City Hall (DBKK) is using a friendly visit approach to traders to fuel the campaign to fly the Jalur Gemilang.

Mayor Datuk Seri Dr Sabin Samitah said DBKK officials would carry out the task to seek cooperation from owners of premises and traders to make the Fly the National and State Flags campaign a success this year.

He said at the initial stage, DBKK would check and find out why premises have not raised the flags yet.

“We want to know whether they have a problem in getting the supply of flags.

Cosmobeauté Malaysia and beautyexpo will expand into East Malaysia with the launch of the Cosmobeauté Malaysia Borneo Festival 2026 at the Sabah International Convention Centre (SICC) from May 25 to 26.
“We will then encourage them to purchase and fly the flags at their business premises throughout the celebration,” he said during the Pre-Publicity Walkabout

As a start, Sabin said, more than 200 Jalur Gemilang and Sabah flags would be distributed free to traders around Jalan Gaya in preparation for the launch of the programme by Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor at the DBKK Building compound at 9am today (Aug 1).

According to him, the same approach is also used for traders who fail to comply with the “Hari-Hari Bawa Beg Bah” (HHBBB) campaign to reduce the use of plastic bags, which also starts today (Aug 1).

“So far, the reaction is quite good because most of them have implemented this campaign in stages until the latest one on three days a week.

“So when we start on Aug 1, we are confident that traders and the public will welcome this campaign.

“However, the campaign does not apply to wet markets and fish markets, but we will encourage them to use other materials,” he said.

Before that, Sabin together with Finance Ministry’s Deputy Permanent Secretary Chee Shok Ting, Sabah Information Department (JaPen) Director Jainisah Mohd Noor and Ceremonies and Protocol Division Director Shafaruddin Halide also inspected the full rehearsal and final preparations of the National Month, Hari Sabah and Fly Jalur Gemilang Campaign 2024 at the launch site.

Also present were DBKK Director General Sr. Lifred Wong, DBKK Deputy Director General Faradillah Abdul Rani and Sabah JaPen Deputy Director Supian Musa.
