SANDAKAN: A 26-year-old man died when the Isuzu Dmax car he was driving skidded and hit a tree at Mile 3 on Sunday morning.
A Sandakan Fire and Rescue Department team rushed to the scene after receiving the 3.30am emergency call.
The rescue team extricated the victim who was pinned in his seat.
Meanwhile, Sandakan District Police Chief, ACP Abdul Fuad Abdul Malek said the victim was driving the vehicle from Mile 4 towards the city centre.
“The victim lost control and swerved to the right and crashed into a tree at the road divider.
“The victim suffered serious injuries and died at the scene.
His body was sent to Duchess of Kent Hospital Forensic Unit for post-mortem,” he said in a statement.
The case is investigated under Section 41 (1) of the Transport Act 1987.
