Kota Kinabalu: A Memorandum of Understanding was Signed Between Sabah-China Chamber of Commerce and Koperasi Star Sabah Berhad to Introduce Advanced Agricultural Technology from China
It aims to promote and assist the development of agriculture and plantation industries in the state, thereby boosting the economic growth of Sabah and achieving mutual benefits.
Koperasi Star Sabah Berhad also signed a contract with Safma (Sabah Fish Marketing Sdn Bhd) to jointly promote the development of the agriculture and fisheries industries.
Deputy Chief Minister cum Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries, and Food Industry of Sabah, Datuk Seri Panglima Dr. Jeffrey Kitingan, witnessed the signing.
Datuk Frankie Liew President of the Sabah China Chamber of Commerce, signed the MoU on behalf of the chamber with Koperasi Star Sabah Berhad. Simon @ Charles Vincent signed the contract on behalf of Safma with Syed Mohamad Hamizan, General Manager of Koperasi Star Sabah Berhad.
Attendees included the Deputy President of the Sabah China Chamber of Commerce, Brett Chua, Vice President Datuk Jonathan Koh, JP and Vice President cum Secretary General Ir. Ts. KJ Tan, JP.
Jeffrey said the signing as well as the contract between Koperasi Star Sabah Berhad and Safma, will promote the development of the state’s agriculture and fisheries industries, including the development of food and plantations.
He said the state has vast tracts of land suitable for development, especially in the Keningau, Tenom, and Tambunan.
He hopes through SCCC, advanced agricultural technology from China can be introduced to help and drive local farmers to develop and plant crops, thereby reducing poverty in these areas and increasing farmers’ income and wellbeing.
He said Safma will assist in transporting seafood products to inland areas for sale, enabling people in these regions to also have access to fresh seafood at lower prices.
