“A 29-year-old local man was also arrested in the operation because he was found to be riding a motorcycle under the influence of alcohol,” Jasmin said in a statement, on Tuesday.

Jasmin said Ops Samseng Jalanan was conducted by the Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Division (BSPT) in collaboration with the Crime Prevention and Community Safety Division (BPJKK) and the Tawau Police Station, led by ASP Joan Lee.

Earlier, he said, the motorcyclist looked suspicious and a breathalyser test on him found that he was riding a motorcycle while intoxicated.

“The alcohol readings recorded 117mg and 72mg/100ml which are above the prescribed levels,” he said, adding the man was detained under Section 45A(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for further action.

Jasmin urged parents to monitor their children’s behaviour so that they are not affected by unhealthy activities.

He said road users also need to obey traffic laws and not engage in any illegal racing or become street thugs.
