Strong unity facilitates development agenda: Shahelmey

PUTATAN: The community is called to continue strengthening unity and independence for the sake of continued development.

Deputy Chief Minister III and State Public Works Minister Datuk Ir Shahelmey Yahya said a strong unity and independent spirit in the community would be able to smoothen the development agenda in the state.

“Let’s together preserve this independent spirit, keeping it free from elements of division, and may unity and mutual respect continue to thrive among us.

“We live in society with people of various backgrounds and ethnicities, so let’s continue to strengthen the existing unity and harmony.

“We want Putatan as a district close to Kota Kinabalu city to continue to develop, prosper, safe and happy.

“I hope that the spirit of independence will continue to be strengthened not only among those who are adults but also at an early age.

“So let us continue to inspire the spirit of independence and the spirit of love for the region, love for the state and the country continue to be nourished,” he said, when officiating the Putatan 2024 District Level Celebration of Independence Month and Sabah Day at Dewan Sri Putatan on Saturday.

The ceremony which began at 6.30am started with a 5km independence run by about 1,000 participants.

Exhibitions and mobile services by government agencies and non-governmental organizations were also held during the closing ceremony.

Also present were Petagas Assemblyman Datuk Awang Ahmad Sah and Putatan District Officer Masawi Salleh.
