Tenom: A total of 100 pupils from Sekolah Kebangsaan Pangi received Maritime School Box assistance donated by the Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA).
The School Box, containing school supplies and snacks, was handed over when the Kembara Merdeka Jalur Gemilang (KMJG) 2024 convoy stopped to meet with the community in Kampung Pangi.
Sabah MMEA Deputy Director (Management), Siti Norhaini Osli, said Sabah MMEA took the opportunity to participate in State KMJG 2024 to provide exposure to the community, especially in rural areas, about MMEA while engaging with them.
“We provide assistance and school supplies, and this is a joint effort with the Kelab Kebajikan dan Sukan Maritim Negeri Sabah dan Wilayah Persekutuan Labuan (Kesmar).
“MMEA’s participation in this KMJG is to introduce and disseminate the roles and functions of MMEA in Sabah and give exposure to the rural communities of Sabah about maritime safety and maritime careers in the State.
“In this convoy, MMEA has the opportunity to provide exposure on national waters security and a new landscape for maritime career opportunities where Sabah has the most extensive sea waters in Malaysia, over 18,000 square kilometres, with a strength of 1,102 personnel in seven maritime zones and an asset strength of 89 ships and boats.
“Kesmar is the MMEA Club that focuses on welfare and social sports matters for members along with community social activities in Sabah and Labuan.
“The selection of KMJG sites this year is the first time MMEA has participated; for the water stop in Sandakan later, we don’t want to miss interacting with residents in rural Sabah to widely spread the functions and roles of MMEA throughout this State,” she said.
Siti said this when met by the media during the KMJG series after engaging with the community in Kampung Pangi, Tenom, in the KMJG series that MMEA has been participating in since the first day of the convoy.
