‘Religious teachers must obtain credentials to ensure quality teaching’

KOTA KINABALU: Sabah Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor said all religious teachers in the state must obtain teaching credentials issued by the Sabah Islamic Religious Council to ensure their delivery meets quality standards.

He said it was also to control deviant agendas and maintain the harmony of inter-ethnic relations in the state, protecting it from harmful elements.

“Preaching and educating society is not a light and easy task. Teachers and preachers will always face various challenges and trials that come one after another,” he said during an opening of the state-level 2024 Madani Ulama (Islamic scholars) and Umara (leaders) Tour programme here today.

His speech text was read out by Sabah Science, Technology, and Innovation Minister Datuk Dr Mohd Arifin Mohd Arif.

“Concern for the welfare of all layers of society, regardless of background, is crucial in ensuring that political stability, economic prosperity, and unity can be realised,” he said.

He added that religious teachers in the state are responsible for understanding and passionately educating the community about religion to ensure that their daily practices are guided by Islamic law.
