E-Invoice for Sabah ‘unfair’
Chong also suggested that the government consider not implementing the E-Invoice system in Sabah, as it would be unfair to the people of Sabah, given that development and education in Sabah are still far behind compared to Peninsular Malaysia.
SANDAKAN: The government is urged to reconsider the implementation of the E-Invoice system in Sabah, which is seen as potentially putting pressure on small and medium-sized businesses.

Elopura Assemblyman, Calvin Chong, stated that while the E-Invoice system is indeed an effort to improve the tax management level in the country in line with the growth of the digital economy, the government still needs to consider several aspects, especially the fate of small-scale traders.

The E-Invoice system, implemented by the Inland Revenue Board (LHDN) in stages, has raised concerns among the public, especially since, starting from July 1, 2024, it will involve all businesses.

“The implementation of the E-Invoice system could potentially discourage small traders from continuing their businesses and put pressure on new entrepreneurs, particularly young people.
