A heartwarming story of a devoted father in Sabah has gone viral, capturing the attention and compassion of many netizens.

The story began earlier this month when Facebook user Hareez Ikmal shared a video showing a father riding a modified bicycle with his young daughter seated in a makeshift seat crafted from dustbins.

The video, which was filmed near a mountain road, highlighted the lengths to which a loving father would go to ensure his child’s comfort and safety on their journey to school.

Hareez shared that he had been travelling to Tawau and was delayed in Lahad Datu due to school traffic.

“While stuck in traffic, I saw this uncle riding a ‘unique bicycle’ with his little daughter at the back. It was heartbreaking to see. Such is the great love of a father. May we meet again one day,” he wrote.

The post quickly gained traction with over 2,800 reactions, 243 comments and 4,300 shares.

The viral video not only captured the attention of many netizens on Facebook, but also local influencer Adrian Edy, who was moved by the story and took immediate action to help.

In a series of photos posted on his Instagram account @adrianedy7, Adrian shared the moment he met the father, identified as Pakcik Basri, and his family in Kampung Bakau Baru, Lahad Datu.

The photos showed Adrian paying the family a visit and presenting a brand-new motorcycle to the family, a gift that would significantly ease their daily commute.

“‘From the People, for the People.’ I was moved to tears in Lahad Datu a few days ago after seeing the video of Pakcik Basri riding his bicycle with his daughter Putri Sarah after school,” he wrote.

He went on to explain that Pakcik Basri, 69, had previously sold ice cream around Lahad Datu for 11 years but had to stop due to declining health.

He said with 10 children to support, Pakcik Basri had been using his modified bicycle to take his daughter to school daily, a journey that took 20 minutes each way.

“Thanks to the people’s generosity, we are able to gift Pakcik Basri a new motorcycle,” Adrian said, adding that extra donations were also made in terms of spending money and food supplies to help ease the family’s lives.

“Tears flowed as Pakcik Basri’s wife [who was also present] expressed her gratitude; Putri Sarah said she would also like to help those in need when she grows up,” he said.

Previously, Adrian Edy helped an inspiring young boy from Tawau who showed determination in his first-ever badminton tournament by bringing him a set of gifts to encourage his passion for the sport.
