Kota Kinabalu: The attitude of a small segment questioning the need to buy the Jalur Gemilang and Sabah Flag is regrettable.
State Finance Minister Datuk Seri Masidi Manjun said purchasing the Jalur Gemilang and Sabah Flag only requires “sacrificing” money once a year.
“I’m quite disappointed when there are parties questioning the rationale of buying flags that only cost RM10 or RM12 to be flown at homes or premises.
“Although the response has been quite good, especially in rural areas, I’m a bit disappointed because there are still dissenting voices questioning why they need to buy these flags.
“For me, this flag is a symbol of respect and patriotism to the country. This is what I hope we can kindle every year so that one day, the question of flags or buying flags will no longer be disputed.
“It’s something that should come naturally because we are citizens proud to be Malaysians,” he said after attending an interview session with Sabah FM.
Masidi, who is also the Chairman of the Main Committee for the 2024 Sabah State-level National Day Celebration, said they received a very high number of applications to participate in the parade on Aug 31.
“We had to limit it to only 180 teams participating to ensure we can meet the time requirements (parade duration).
“Last year, we had 151 teams or contingents while this year we have 180,” he said.
Masidi also expressed appreciation for the enthusiastic response from those wanting to participate in the parade and considered it a manifestation of pride and love for the country.
