MATUNGGONG: A pluralistic society needs to appreciate the similarities and respect the differences between races, ethnicities and religions.
Assistant Finance Minister Datuk Julita Mojungki said the community should not be complacent and assume that the unity enjoyed will last.
“In a pluralistic society like in Sabah, tolerance towards each other is very important so that the unity enjoyed at the moment can be maintained.
“Differences of religions and races among plural societies must be respected while any similarities must be appreciated,” said the Matunggong Assemblywoman after officiating the Kembara Merdeka Jalur Gemilang (KMJG) programme at the Matunggong Sub-District Office here.
Julita also called on the local community to respect the Jalur Gemilang and the Sabah Flag by flying it in the right way.
“Even when wanting to dispose of the old Jalur Gemilang and the Sabah Flag, it should be done in a proper and orderly manner, not by simply throwing it away, as a sign of respect,” she said.
She welcomed the arrival of the KMJG convoy to Matunggong and hoped the community would respond to the call of the 1 House and 1 Jalur Gemilang campaign and fly the Sabah Flag at their respective premises.
Julita also signed the KMJG travel notebook and flagged off the convoy to go to the next destination.
