TAWAU: A former marketing manager of a palm oil-related company pleaded not guilty in the Magistrate’s Court Thursday to 26 counts of fraud involving RM6.2 million since last year.
The accused, Mok Chuang Leon, 36, entered the plea after the charges were read before Magistrate Don Stiwin Malanjum.
Mok is accused of deceiving a company clerk into handing over RM6.2 million by submitting false palm oil sales statements from two companies between February 2023 and February this year, reports Bernama.
The alleged offences took place at TB 8283, Lot 20C Perdana Square Commercial Centre, Batu 3 ½ Jalan Apas, Tawau.
He was charged under Section 420 of the Penal Code, which carries imprisonment of between one and 10 years, caning, and a possible fine upon conviction.
The prosecution was led by ASP Jeffery Kadisun, while the accused was represented by lawyer Chen Wen Jye.
The court granted bail at RM4,000 for each charge with two local sureties. However, at the time of reporting, the accused had yet to post bail. The next case mention was scheduled for Oct 8 and 10.
Meanwhile, in KOTA KINABALU, a primary school teacher was released on a two-year good behaviour bond by the Sessions Court here for posting offensive words on Facebook.
Judge Noor Hafizah Mohd Salim set RM1,000 undeposited condition for the good behaviour bond with one surety against Annuar Sanip.
Annuar, 44, pleaded guilty to posting offensive words through a Facebook profile page on Sept 12, 2022 at 1.15pm, to offend others, in which the comments were read by Mohd Razif Osmanuddin at Kota Kinabalu Syariah Court Complex.
The offence, under Sub-Section 233(1)(a) of the Multimedia and Communication Act 1998, provides a fine of up to RM50,000, or a jail term of up to one year, or both, on conviction.
Deputy Public Prosecutor DK Afiqah Alya PG Johari, in tendering the facts of the case, informed the court that investigations revealed that the Facebook account belonged to Annuar.
Investigations also revealed that the Facebook account ID was logged in using the mobile phone seized from Annuar.
Annuar was represented by counsel Aaron Mark Pius.
Meanwhile, an army personnel was charged in the Magistrate’s Court with assaulting his colleague.
Khairul Anuar Hasan, 32, pleaded not guilty before Magistrate Marilyn Kelvin to voluntarily causing hurt to Muhammad Saidi Ahmad Faizal on Oct 11, 2022, at 8pm, in front of the officer’s bachelor accommodation at Lok Kawi camp, Putatan.
The charge is framed under Section 323 of the Penal Code.
The court set Sept 27 for mention and offered the accused bail at RM2,500 in two sureties with a condition not to tamper with the prosecution’s witnesses.
